Wineries & Wine Tours
You can go wrong with most wineries up Napa Valley, but there are a couple of stops that are definitely a must on any visit up there.
- Niebaum-Coppola Estate WInery is director Francis Ford Coppola's romantic chateau and winery in Napa. Just remember to make reservations on the weekend, otherwise, they won't even let you in. 707.963-4812
- Chateau Montelena is the winery that put Napa Valley (and the United States) on the map as one of the premier wine producers in the world by winning a French blind tasting in 1976. It is a very nice castle and has a good area for picnicking. 707.942.5105
- Domaine Chandon produces a very fine sparklin wine. They have a great tour of how sparklin wine is produced, a world class restaurant overlooking a beatiful garden. Definitely worth a long stop on your Napa tour. 707.944.2280
- Robert Modavi is one of the biggest vinyards in Napa Valley and a very large wine producer world wide. This vinard has a great tour through their mission style buildings. 800-666-3284
Besides wine tasting, most wineries in Napa Valley will have tours of their facilities. These tours can be very interesting, if you have never seen how wine is made.
You can travel to the different wineries by car, but you can also rent bicycles or go by shuttle, limo or train. If you are doing the day trip a limo tour of Napa is the best. It is important to remember that the Napa Wine Train does not stop at the different vinyars, but is rather a 3 hour tour with food and Napa wine. If you actually want to see the vinyards and try the wine, you will want to use a different more of transportation.
